Matlab on Personal Machines

Prior to 2016, Matlab could only be installed on “employee” computers. Aside from University-owned machines, that also applied to the personal machines of graduate students being employed to do research, but not others. MathWorks has now simplified this by creating a “Student” license, which is linked to the main University license. This can be installed on personal machines. All students can now download Matlab from software.byu.edu. Installation instructions are available if they click on “View Product Details.” They can do an online installation, but they will need to first create a MathWorks account with a @byu.edu email address. Alternatively, they can download the ISO and install using a File Installation Key as in the offline install wiki article.

There is also nothing stopping us from doing the installation, as we can log in with the department MathWorks account and choose the Student option for the University license (284884).

You will need to use a BYU vpn to use Matlab off-campus. BYU Cisco VPN client
